A few years ago, the book (and movie) of The Secret had the world abuzz. Since it’s release it has spawned websites, chat groups, Facebook pages and follow up books. Yesterday I saw that one of the people central to the movie is selling advanced secrets not shown in the movie.
The central aspect of The Secret is the Law of Attraction. The basic premise of this law is that you ask, believe, and you will receive. I wonder how many people have tried to do this and ended up attracting more of the things they do not want, have given up and said “It does not work”?
Let’s have a look at this Secret thing and see how it is supposed to work.
The first thing to do is to ask. In order to ask for something, you need to have a very clear goal. And in order to have a specific goal, you need to pull that goal apart into its different components. What do you want? When do you want it? How do you want it? These are the kind of questions you are going to have to ask yourself. In other words, clear goals, attainable goals. Winning the Lotto is not a goal, it’s wishful thinking, especially if you never buy a ticket!
The second part is to Ask. Okay, so who do you ask? God? The Universe? Do you just put it out there and hope for the best? Who knows?
And then of course you have to believe, believe that it’s possible that you can receive. And how exactly do you do that?
All a bit confusing, this Secret stuff, isn’t it? And for these reasons many people have given up using the Secret, because they do not know the secret of The Secret.
So: Is there a secret to The Secret?
I think there is, and it is called the subconscious mind.
Napoleon Hill wrote in his book Think and grow rich:
“If you can imagine it, and you can believe it, you can achieve it.”
I repeat this every day to all of my smoking clients. If you can picture or imagine yourself as a non-smoker, and if you believe that this is your reality, it will become your new reality.
And how do you achieve this? How do you access the power of your subconscious mind?
The secret of the secret of The Secret (!) is to use self-hypnosis, or “creative daydreaming”.
First, set the goals. Be very specific what you want. There are many different types of goals, whether they be personal, material, development, short-, medium- or long term. Be as specific as you can be when formulating goals. Make a long list, as many as you can. Take some time out, go sit on a mountain or in a garden or at the sea. Forget about everything else and just dream up your goals.
Now the trick is to prioritise these goals. Number them in order of priority. And now this is where self-hypnosis starts playing an important role. Go into hypnosis, either by yourself or guided by a Hypnotist, and let your subconscious mind prioritise the goals. You will be surprised at the difference between the conscious mind’s priorities and the priorities assigned to the goals by the subconscious mind. What you thought would be important may now be at the bottom of your list!
What you must understand is that your subconscious mind knows best! It has vast capabilities and capacities, way beyond our conscious understanding.
Now that you have your goals, comes the second part – Ask. How do you ask?
Again, use self-hypnosis. If you know how to turn your prioritised goals into affirmations, and if you know how to access the power of your imagination, you can ask ten, twenty, thirty times a day. The trick is to imagine that you already have what you are asking for. In other words, believe very strongly that what you ask for is already happening.
So yes, indeed, there is a secret to The Secret. The secret is to use self-hypnosis techniques to achieve your goals. Using the power of your mind and thoughts, you can achieve the seemingly impossible.
Of course it is going to take dedicated effort on your part, but I am sure you have heard it said that nothing is impossible.
Now you may be thinking: “How on earth am I supposed to do all of this? How do I learn self-hypnosis? How do I develop affirmations? How do I do creative daydreaming?”
Your local bookstore may have some wonderful books on the subject, and in particular I would recommend Roy Hunter’s Mastering the Power of Self Hypnosis.
Or you can go and see your local Hypnotist who would be able to guide you through the process. Make The Secret work for you!
